Staff Neurologist – VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System
Location: Harlingen, Texas
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Days | Outpatient-Only | No Call
Aptive is seeking a full-time Neurologist to support a rewarding opportunity with the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System in Harlingen, TX. Position Overview The Neurologist will provide comprehensive outpatient neurological care focused on evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of general neurological conditions. The role is well-supported operationally and clinically, with consistent staffing, defined schedules, and mission-aligned leadership. As the service continues to expand access to neurological care, this provider will meaningfully contribute to program development and continuity of patient services.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform detailed neurological evaluations, examinations, and follow-up visits for established and new patients.
Order and interpret appropriate testing, including EEG, EMG/NCS, laboratory studies, and imaging.
Manage chronic neurological conditions such as migraines, seizure disorders, neuropathy, neurovascular diseases, and chronic neurologic illnesses common among Veterans.
Provide patient counseling, education, and shared decision-making regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and medication management.
Perform neurologic procedures as credentialed (examples include Botox injections, lumbar puncture, EMG/NCS, EEG interpretation).
Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams, including internal medicine, pain management, behavioral health, and rehabilitation services.
Accurately document care using VA electronic health systems (training provided).
Participate in clinic process optimization and contribute to quality-focused initiatives.
Work Environment & Schedule
Outpatient-only
practice located at the Harlingen VA Health Care Center
Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
No call responsibilities
No weekend or holiday coverage
Collaborative support from nursing and administrative personnel
Patient volume averaging approximately 5–10 scheduled encounters per day
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary based on federal physician pay structure (base + market pay)
Eligibility for the
Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP)
up to $200,000

Minimum Qualifications
MD or DO degree from an accredited U.S. medical school
Completion of an
ACGME-accredited Neurology residency program (required)
Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
Eligibility for federal DEA registration
Strong communication and patient engagement skills
Desired Qualifications
Three or more years of independent practice experience
Experience with Botox or chemodenervation procedures
Experience performing or interpreting EMG/NCS or EEG
Experience treating or evaluating individuals with TBI or chronic neurological disorders
