PRINCIPAL, ELEMENTARY

John B. Monlux Elementary is a Stem School on traditional calendar. We are a school-wide Title I school that serves approximately 650 students in UTK through Grade 5.

John B. Monlux Elementary School has a strong academic program focused on meeting the individual needs of all students. We create opportunities for our students to feel supported, enjoy learning, and to reach their full potential. Monlux has hardworking, dedicated, and proactive teachers and staff who serve the community and students’ academic, social, physical, and emotional needs.

As a Stem school, we strive to provide a learning environment where all children can learn and thrive and for our school to be the hub for the community where families access health, social-emotional, mental health, and enrichment support for students. The following four tenets guide our work: Integrated Student Supports, Expanded Learning Time and Opportunities, Family and Community Engagement, and Collaborative Leadership and Practice.

Our student population, which draws from our immediate and surrounding communities, is approximately 70% White, 25% Latino, 1% Black, and 2% Pacific Islander/Filipino/Asian. 26% of students qualify as English Learners, 10% Gate and 10% as students with special needs. The school is located at 6051 Bellaire Avenue North Hollywood, CA 91606.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: We are seeking an exceptional candidate for the position of Principal who embodies strong instructional leadership and possesses a passion for supporting growth in teaching and learning. As an instructional leader, the candidate should have an understanding of best practices in education and the ability to guide teachers in implementing these practices in their classrooms. They should be adept in analyzing student data, identifying areas for improvement, and designing targeted interventions to address student needs.

The candidate should have a strong understanding of STEM Magnet program requirements, including compliance, instructional expectations and program sustainability. The candidate should have knowledge of the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework and be skilled in providing constructive feedback and support to teachers, helping them enhance their instructional strategies and improve student outcome. They should have a collaborative approach, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth among the teaching staff.

The candidate should have experience with effective theme integration across grade levels and content areas to support cohesive, interdisciplinary instruction and knowledge and practical application of the Depth and Complexity Framework to promote higher-order thinking, rigorous instruction and equitable access to learning for all students.

The candidate should also demonstrate professionalism, strong communication and listening skills; welcome faculty input in decision making; possess excellent planning and organizational skills; have the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively; use creativity to solve problems; and be committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders.

SALARY: SALARY:

42G - E Basis ($129,897 - $162,207) – 234 paid days

For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.

For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).

Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service

A minimum of threeyears of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program

A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school

Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process

for

one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

* Candidates have one year to complete this requirement

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
