Description Public Works Department – Solid Waste/Transfer Station Division Reports to: Solid Waste Coordinator
Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The City is seeking a reliable
Special Materials Spotter
to provide semi-skilled and skilled labor supporting daily operations at the Solid Waste and Transfer Station facilities. This position plays an important role in maintaining safe, efficient, and well-kept sites for staff and the public.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrate Accountability by observing, directing, and safeguarding the proper handling of materials entering drop-off areas at the Transfer Station.
Take Ownership of site conditions by performing routine maintenance, cleaning, painting, landscaping, and debris removal throughout the Transfer Station, Landfill, and office areas.
Support Innovation and Efficiency by operating equipment such as the mule for debris collection, riding mower, and other small-engine tools (edger, weed eater, saws, trimmers, blowers, pressure washer, etc.).
Empower Team Operations by assisting with equipment maintenance, basic repairs, and transporting equipment for servicing as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
Observe, direct and safeguard the handling of materials entering the drop off areas of the transfer station.
Operates the mule in debris collection at the Transfer Station/Landfill site which includes the entrance road and byways and adjacent areas as needed.
Operates the riding mower, and other small engine mechanical devices such as edger, weed eater, saws, trimmer, blower, and pressure washer, etc.
Utilizes manual laboring tools to assist in the overall appearance of the Transfer Station/Landfill and office areas.
Performs regular and routine maintenance and landscaping and debris removal from Transfer Station and Landfill areas.
Does regular and routing maintenance, cleaning, painting, repairs and delivers equipment for repair.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Florida state Driver’s License with an acceptable driving history.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Language Ability Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
