About the Opportunity AD Energy Recruitment is supporting a growing Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) owner-operator as they continue to expand their footprint across North America.
Our client develops, owns, and operates RNG facilities that convert agricultural and organic waste into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas. Their projects play a critical role in reducing emissions, supporting local farming communities, and advancing the energy transition through commercially viable, scalable RNG solutions.
Due to continued growth, they are now looking to appoint an RNG Plant Operator to support day-to-day plant operations at their facility in Lisbon, New York.
The Role The RNG Plant Operator will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of the RNG facility. This is a hands‑on role focused on maximising plant uptime, maintaining gas quality specifications, and ensuring full compliance with safety and environmental standards.
The role suits candidates with strong mechanical and/or electrical experience, ideally from RNG, biogas, wastewater, or industrial process environments.
Key Responsibilities Plant Operations & Control
Monitor, operate, adjust, and troubleshoot anaerobic digesters and RNG upgrading equipment
Maximise biogas and RNG production while maintaining safe and environmentally compliant operations
Start-Up & Shutdown
Execute correct start‑up and shutdown procedures in line with operating manuals, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements
Process Optimisation
Work closely with engineering and technical teams to identify efficiency improvements and optimise plant performance
Quality Control
Perform routine checks to ensure feedstock and RNG product quality meet required specifications
Investigate and resolve issues impacting gas quality or production
Maintenance & Reliability
Carry out routine inspections and preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment
Troubleshoot faults and coordinate repairs to minimise downtime
Health, Safety & Compliance
Adhere to OSHA, site safety procedures, and environmental regulations
Promote a strong safety‑first culture on site
Reporting & Documentation
Maintain accurate operational logs, maintenance records, and production data
Emergency Response
Respond to alarms, plant upsets, and emergency situations in accordance with site procedures
Carry out additional duties as required to support plant operations
Candidate Profile
High school diploma or equivalent (technical certifications are a plus)
Strong mechanical aptitude with electrical experience
Experience operating and maintaining industrial process equipment
Background in RNG, biogas, wastewater treatment, or similar industrial environments preferred
Understanding of process safety and industrial compliance standards
Ability to troubleshoot independently and work in a hands‑on plant environment
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a small site team
Willingness to participate in on‑call rotation, including nights and weekends
