Job Description
Performs comprehensive respiratory assessment and respiratory therapy as prescribed by a physician. Provides patient/family with respiratory therapy education. Prepares, operates and maintains respiratory test/care equipment.
Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive respiratory assessment: utilize assessment data to determine patient’s actual or potential problems; conduct bedside pulmonary function studies per physician's order; collaborate with physicians on patient’s plan of care; evaluate patient’s responses to respiratory care.
Implement a systematic process for delivering care to assigned patients, including:
Physical chest therapy (cupping) to loosen and mobilize secretions; clear airway blockage.
Assist in Pulmonary Stress Testing and standard suctioning techniques.
Use ventilator management/weaning protocols; bronchial hygiene and airway care procedures.
Collect blood for PH gas analysis, notify physicians, adjust ventilator parameters.
Implement, monitor, and maintain non‑invasive mechanical ventilation; monitor gas exchange via pulse oximetry and capnography.
Assist in transport of mechanically ventilated patients with artificial airways.
Administer oxygen and humidification therapy per physician’s order and department policy; initiate, monitor, and adjust parameters on continuous mechanical ventilation.
Respond to cardiopulmonary emergencies and render care as per ACLS/BCLS standards; provide emergent airway care including intubation.
Implement ventilator management adhering to protocols as per department and ICU standards.
Provide patient/family with respiratory therapy education as ordered.
Complete departmental paperwork as specified for each assignment and assist with inventory control.
Adhere to established infection control protocols and fire safety protocols.
Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Certificate of completion from an accredited respiratory therapist program, required.
Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.
Licensed in Respiratory Therapy in NY State, required.
Registered as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC), required.
Advanced or Basic Life Support certification, required.

Additional Salary Detail The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
