Purpose for the Position
The individual who holds this position serves as the camp’s head of maintenance, and oversees all aspects of camp facility management (including the areas of maintenance and grounds). The Twin Rocks Facilities Department strives to create physical spaces that allow people the freedom to meet with Christ and build community with others. An ideal candidate will have a passion for helping to create an environment that reduces distractions and puts guests at ease so they may more easily enter into spiritual and community building activities.
Essential Responsibilities
Ensure the effective functioning of the camp’s facilities, providing the camp with buildings and grounds that are attractive, functional, and safe for staff and campers of all ages
Oversee the day‑to‑day activities of the facilities department
Ensure the effective functioning of the camp’s vehicles, providing the camp with vehicles that are attractive, functional and safe
Ensure the effective functioning of the camp’s utilities, providing the camp with utilities that are functional and safe
Responsible for successfully hiring and supervising all maintenance and grounds staff and volunteers
Responsible for successfully selecting and supervising contractors to perform professional maintenance/grounds services for Twin Rocks
Responsible for purchasing for the Facilities Department, providing for the maintenance and grounds needs of the camp within budget
Ensure that the camp operates in a manner that is environmentally‑conscious
Ensure that the camp’s facilities and grounds are compliant with ACA and OSHA requirements
Serve on the camp’s team of Directors and attend meetings of the Board of Directors
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
Attitude of service and a commitment to Twin Rocks Friends Camp and its ministry
Possess an evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the organization’s goals, including signed agreements with Twin Rocks’ Statement of Faith and Lifestyle Expectations
General knowledge of most aspects of building construction/maintenance and grounds upkeep
Proven ability in several of the following areas of maintenance: routine repairs, preventative maintenance, general construction, equipment maintenance, building remodeling, automotive repair, audio‑visual technology, etc.
Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and over the phone
Previous experience working in a maintenance‑related job strongly preferred
Proven abilities in the areas of maintenance and grounds
Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
Proven computer/technology skills
Proven ability to successfully supervise employees
Proven ability to successfully manage a budget
Ability to undertake “essential responsibilities” above in a timely, friendly, respectful, detail‑oriented manner
Skills and Abilities
Maintain a viable, growing relationship with Jesus Christ and exemplify that relationship in daily life
Ability to work with other staff in planning logistics and other decision‑making
Self‑motivated person who can anticipate the needs of staff and guests
An eye for details and ability to see problems and develop a plan to address them in order to keep the facility in top‑notch condition
A proven commitment to excellence
Ability to handle multiple projects and issues at the same time and yet maintain a positive attitude
Ability to conduct the regular duties of a maintenance worker and a grounds worker
Ability to manage a budget
Ability to supervise a large staff of employees and volunteers with confidence, knowledge, and respect
Ability to interact extremely well with the public
Environmental Conditions & Physical Demands
It is important to be in good physical condition and be able to lift up to 75 pounds. This job will include work on ladders and roofs, in crawl spaces above and below buildings, reaching, crawling, lifting, sweeping, etc.
The position involves working both outside and inside, sometimes in inclement weather.
Language Development The employee should be able to communicate clearly (verbally and in writing) in English with staff, contractors, guests, and volunteers. Proficiency in Spanish is helpful.
Associated Duties This person will periodically work in other departments and needs to be open to other duties as assigned. In keeping with the multi‑faced nature of a Christian camp, the person in this position will regularly undertake behind‑the‑scenes duties such as housekeeping, food service/clean‑up, and guest hosting.
Compensation This is a full‑time, year‑round management position, eligible for the camp’s full benefit package as outlined in Twin Rocks’ Employee Handbook. On average, the person in this position will be asked to work 48 hours per week.
