Position Overview Kendall County is seeking a skilled and motivated Systems Administrator to join the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Department. Reporting to the IT Systems Manager, this full-time, exempt position plays a critical role in administering, maintaining, and supporting the County’s enterprise technology systems.
The Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of mission‑critical systems, including public safety platforms such as 911 Computer Aided Dispatch, records management systems, Microsoft Windows environments, Active Directory, SQL Server, and related infrastructure. This role works closely with County departments, vendors, and the IT team to support daily operations and long‑term technology initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Administer, maintain, and support County enterprise systems, including public safety systems (911 CAD, RMS), Microsoft Windows, Active Directory, SCCM, SQL Server, and related infrastructure.
Analyze system requirements and collaborate with users to design and implement effective technology solutions.
Monitor system performance and ensure the reliability, availability, and security of servers, applications, and networks.
Install, configure, test, and maintain server and client software, including upgrades and patches.
Troubleshoot and resolve system, server, and application issues in a timely manner.
Provide technical guidance and recommendations to IT leadership and County departments.
Serve as backup support for networking, virtual server platforms, and storage systems.
Support and mentor help desk staff and develop documentation and end‑user procedures.
Participate in after‑hours on‑call rotation and coordinate with vendors to resolve technical issues.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and at least two (2) years of professional experience in information technology,
or
A combination of post‑secondary education and at least six (6) years of professional IT experience.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and enterprise applications.
General knowledge of networking devices, systems, and file transfer protocols.
Strong troubleshooting skills related to server, system, and network environments.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and stakeholders.
Industry certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, A+, Security+) preferred but not required.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License
Salary and Benefits
Salary Range:
$72,000– $78,500 annually,
depending on qualifications
Paid Time Off:
Approximately
14 paid holidays
per year, approved each year.
Vacation:
10 vacation days, accrued monthly, increasing with years of service
12 paid personal/sick days
per year
