Area Digital Delivery Manager The Area Digital Delivery Manager will oversee the development and expansion of HDR’s Digital Delivery practice within the Transportation Business Group, supporting Engineering and Construction teams within the area. This role is responsible for standardizing BIM and VDC workflows, including advanced capabilities such as 3D clash detection and digital asset management. The position collaborates closely with area Market Sector and Business Class teams and Transportation Digital Delivery Leadership to enhance project delivery through technology, develop standards and training, and build a high‑performing Digital Delivery team. Additionally, this person will manage BIM execution on major projects, ensuring quality, coordination, and successful implementation of digital tools and environments.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development, growth, and resources of the Digital Delivery practice for the area to support Engineering and Construction teams.

Standardize and grow the area Digital Delivery Program to support VDC/BIM, Data Acquisition, 3D Clash Detection, and Asset Management across various sectors within the Transportation industry.

Work in close coordination with area Project Controls, Geospatial Information Management, and Visualization & Interactive Design teams to enhance project delivery within the area through effective use of technology‑related services.

Collaborate with National Digital Delivery Leadership to assist in the development of Area/Regional BIM Standards, best practices, training, knowledge‑sharing networks, technology implementation, and thought leadership while establishing a regional presence to support growth of the Digital Delivery practice within the area.

Identify appropriate staffing needs through working with area leadership in building a Digital Delivery team and BIM staff to enable successful Digital Delivery of Projects.

Lead Digital Delivery/BIM Management of regional Mega Projects working alongside Project Managers to develop scope and fee of Digital Delivery services, write and enforce BIM Execution Plans, establish and communicate standards, protocols, and best practices while working collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams.

Work with area CAD Managers to lead team members in coordinating submittals for clients, governmental agencies, permitting agencies, etc. for reviews, approvals, and other milestones.

Lead the team and establish best practices for performing thorough QA/QC of models and sheet files for standards compliance and discipline coordination.

Set up, implement, and oversee Common Data Environments for projects with support from application specialists.

Handle multiple, demanding, and complex projects in a timely manner with accurate and measurable results.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong understanding of Digital Delivery/BIM Management.

Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Science, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, Construction Management or similar preferred.

10+ years of experience with civil engineering/site development & architectural projects, with a proven track record serving a BIM role on large‑scale infrastructure projects.

Experience in alternative delivery projects and working with multiple disciplines.

Experience training others in OpenRoads and developing best practices.

Demonstrated experience in model authoring/CAD software such as Civil3D, Revit, Inroads, Geopak, MicroStation, and OpenRoads Designer.

Familiarity with BIM management and coordination tools such as Navisworks, BIM360, Bentley Infrastructure Cloud/iTwins, Synchro, and Assemble, supporting BIM uses like clash detection, 4D construction phasing, model health assessments, extended reality, digital twins and digital asset management.

Ability to manage CAD standards and workspaces in Common Data Environments (e.g., ProjectWise, Autodesk Construction Cloud), with familiarity with ISO‑19650 standards.

Bentley OpenRoads Designer or Civil 3D, with experience integrating GIS into BIM workflows and publishing 3D models to GIS.

Understanding of reality capture methods and integration of existing conditions data into design workflows.

Awareness of current and future artificial intelligence applications in the AEC industry and BIM/CAD, including potential benefits and risks.

Extensive knowledge of BIM, design development, construction documents, technical and engineering knowledge.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including ability to gather, organize and interpret data for process monitoring or business case development.

Strong interpersonal skills and collaboration.

Oral and written communication skills.

Required Qualifications

Technical degree or a combination of education and relevant experience.

A minimum of 5 years digital design (BIM element authoring) and 3 years digital delivery (model management) experience.

Comprehensive understanding of all discipline relations and operations of building systems.

Advanced skill set in 3D design software and document management infrastructure.

Advanced skill set in 3D coordination tools.

Advanced skill set in Microsoft Office products and communication tools.

Familiarity with industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specifications.

Familiarity with basic automation and programming applications for efficiencies.

Familiarity with 3D design software add‑ins and supporting applications.

Familiarity with content creation and management concepts.

Superior client service, communication, and presentation skills are essential.

Demonstrated strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to effectively serve as a first line of technical support.
