Responsibilities

Deliver patient care with knowledge of growth and development appropriate to patient ages.

Takes and records vital signs, reports deviations to primary or charge nurse.

Obtains specimens as assigned (e.g., urine, stool, sputum).

Weighs patient and records weight.

Assists patient with activities of daily living including skin care, bathing, dressing, ambulating, and meals.

Records oral intake and urinary output.

Performs assigned treatments (e.g., changes simple dressings).

Communicates effectively with Charge Nurse/Primary Nurse regarding patient needs and requests.

Orients patient to environment and develops rapport with patients, family and significant others.

Assists in patient management including de-escalation, alternative activities to prevent restraint and seclusion and physically assists in patient containment, restraint or seclusion under direction of the Registered Nurse.

Performs admission and unit searches as assigned by the Registered Nurse.

Keeps unit clean (wipes tables, neaten storage, pantries).

Prepares bedside unit for new admissions (stocks beds, tissues, water, cups).

Applies infection control and safety principles.

Reports significant unit problems to charge nurse.

Ensures contraband not introduced by property search, rounds, visitor monitoring.

Monitors visiting sessions as assigned.

Assists in transporting patients to designated areas.

Assists with unit therapeutic activities as directed.

Ensures safe unit environment through rounding, observation, reporting to RN.

Familiar with Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, Values Statements.

Understands and adheres to Code of Conduct.

Maintains departmental policies, quality assurance, safety, environmental, infection control standards; assesses gaps and creates necessary policies.

Provides customer service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, helpfulness; responses timely, professional, caring, respectful.

Other Job Duties3>

Effectively utilize hospital computer system as it pertains to responsibilities and hospital policy.

Participate in orientation of nursing assistants.

Participate in unit committees and CQI activities as assigned.

Assist other personnel as necessary.

Perform other related duties as required.

Basic Competencies Education

Successful completion of an approved Nurse’s Aide training course preferred.

Experience

1 year of experience as a Nurse's Aide preferred.

Skills

American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED certification required.

Technical skills required for patient care.

Strong understanding of regulatory requirements.

Good organizational skills.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Good interpersonal skills.

Must be computer literate.

Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required.

Job Setting / Physical Demands All patient care areas; contact with patients, visitors, staff. Frequent prolonged standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients. Protective clothing worn: face shield, gloves, impermeable gown, particulate respirator.

Salary $21.00/ hr. Differential $1.15 for evening, night & weekend.

Qualifications

High School diploma, GED or equivalent.

BLS required.
