The new Zutshi Lab studies how neural activity supports planning, decision‑making, and memory, using electrophysiology, in‑vivo imaging, optogenetics, and computational analysis in behaving mice.

The position is fully on‑site at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, NJ.
The lab investigates hippocampal and cortical circuits during navigation and goal‑directed behaviors, developing experimental and analytical approaches to understand circuit‑level mechanisms of cognition.
Responsibilities
Conduct laboratory research in systems neuroscience projects. Design, perform, and analyze experiments using large‑scale electrophysiology, in‑vivo imaging, optogenetics, and computational methods. Develop and refine behavioral assays and circuit manipulation approaches in behaving mice. Prepare manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals and present findings at scientific meetings. Engage in scientific communication and train junior personnel.
Qualifications
PhD in neuroscience, biology, or a related field required. Candidates ABD (all but degree) will also be considered. Strong scientific writing and independent work skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in in‑vivo neural activity monitoring (electrophysiology, 2‑photon or 1‑photon imaging, fiber photometry). Advanced data analysis/computational approaches. Optogenetic or viral circuit manipulation. Development of naturalistic rodent behaviors.
Salary
Exempt FLSA.
$63,968.18 (mid‑range $90,000, minimum $20,000, maximum $200,000).
Final offer depends on qualifications, experience, and funding.
