has an exciting opportunity for a

SLS Manufacturing Engineer (Build Strategy Lead)

(Level 4 or 5)

for the Exploration Upper Stage to join the Space Launch System (SLS) team in

New Orleans, Louisiana.

The selected Build Strategy Lead will be the primary point of contact for day to day collaboration with the IPT (Integrated Production Team) leadership team, reporting to the Production Engineering Leadership Team.

As a part of Boeing’s Space, Intelligence and Weapon Systems (SI&WS) organization, the SLS Production Engineering team is focused on attracting and developing top talent in support of critical missions on the Space Launch System (SLS) program. With team members in New Orleans, LA, Huntsville, AL, and Kennedy Space Center, FL, we are connected to NASA’s missions, delivering both astronauts and cargo to low‑earth orbit, the lunar surface, and beyond. For an exceptional candidate, this role provides the opportunity to shape the future of space launch, through leading the Build Strategy and Architecture for the program elements.

Position Responsibilities:

Leads Significant Build Strategy changes across the Program elements as a result of constraints, changes in business strategy, design changes, and other Program‑directed changes

Creates, supports and evaluates trade studies for multiple, flexible, build options

Collaborates with volume Integrators and Manufacturing and Industrial engineers on daily constraint‑driven build plan changes, and overall improvements to future build architecture

Identifies, drives and guides implementation of innovations and enterprise best practices into the build

Ensures compliance with safety standards and promotes first‑pass quality in build plan decisions

Assess and validates Risk Mitigation & Opportunity Capture for implementation into the overall long range build strategy

Supported by the Manufacturing Engineering and Integrated Product Teams

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non‑US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

8+ years of experience in engineering design or manufacturing engineering

2+ years of experience working with NASA programs

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience with the Space Launch System (SLS) Program

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Lead (Level 4) Summary pay range: $126,650 - $171,350

Lead (Level 5) Summary pay range: $154,700 - $209,300
