Psychiatric/DD Nurse – 20091808 Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) is hiring a Psychiatric/DD Nurse to plan and deliver psychiatric nursing care to offenders in a correctional setting. This full‑time position is based at the Grafton Correctional Institution in Lorain County, Ohio.

Responsibilities

Plan psychiatric care of patient/offenders based on needs identified during assessment.

Write measurable goals and plan interventions specific to the patient/offender.

Serve on a multi‑disciplinary mental health treatment team as a provider of psychiatric nursing services for mentally ill patients/offenders.

Provide crisis intervention to patients/offenders.

Complete detailed psychiatric screening and nursing assessments and participate in development of treatment plans.

Conduct medication education and participate in other therapeutic groups such as medication compliance, sleep hygiene, and medication education as assigned.

Implement special precautions for suicide and escape; secure orders for restraint or seclusion of patient/offenders including special needs of the population.

Observe and evaluate the patient/offender’s physical and emotional reaction to medication and therapies.

Submit timely reports to the psychiatrist and appropriate treatment staff.

Document appropriate data in the patient/inmate’s records.

Act as a mental health liaison.

Assist psychiatrists/CNS with psychiatric examinations.

Record and facilitate implementation of physician/psychiatrist/CNS orders.

Coordinate psychiatric appointments.

Provide professional nursing care including checking vital signs, assessing medical needs, and administering medication.

Provide direct professional nursing care with observation, assessment, and record of symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients; make appropriate referrals.

Perform psychiatric nursing rounds.

Provide immediate attention to emergencies.

Complete psychiatric nursing care plans.

Assist with orientation of staff.

Complete miscellaneous forms and reports, including quality assurance and medication compliance.

Attend meetings, conferences, and training sessions as directed.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio.

Experience in psychiatric or behavioral health nursing preferred.

Knowledge of medication management, confidentiality, and teamwork.

Strong decision‑making, customer‑focus, and emotional intelligence skills.

Compensation and Schedule Starting pay approximately $78,000 based on location/shift assignments. Full‑time schedule.

Additional Information Ohio has joined the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), which allows an RN to hold one multistate license (MSL) in their primary state of residence while practicing virtually or over state lines in 37 other compact states across the country.

DRC is a “qualifying employer” for the federal Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness program.

Must be licensed as a registered professional nurse in Ohio as issued by the Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of the Revised Code.
