Consultant General Surgeon - Upper GI Interest

The appointment is for a Locum Consultant in General Surgery within our friendly and well‑established Surgical Specialties Division at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. There will be opportunity to work with colleagues in the development of new and effective patient care pathways in a department which strives to provide excellent services.
This post is designed to support the existing provision of upper gastrointestinal surgery, as well as further developing laparoscopic surgery for benign upper gastrointestinal diseases, including complex laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair.
Key aspects of the role will include the development of emergency services, provision of surgical ambulatory care, emergency Upper GI surgery (including hot gall bladder lists) and support for the general on‑call rota. The successful candidate will provide regular gastroscopy lists and be involved in emergency care.

Person Specification Qualifications
FRCS
Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise
Experience
Broad clinical experience in Emergency General Surgery including acute laparoscopic cholecystectomy and bile duct exploration sufficient to function on the consultant general surgical emergency rota.
Clinical supervision experience/skills
Experience of participation in CPD.
Experience in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery.
Previous experience of using online patient record system e.g. SystmOne.
Experience in management of complex hiatal hernia and motility disorders including laparoscopic interventions.
Experience in laparoscopic exploration of bile ducts
Experience in complex hiatal hernia repairs (both laparoscopic and open)
Skills
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Good written and oral communication skills.
Skilled in laparoscopic procedures.
Skilled in endoscopic investigations and interventions
Ability to undertake training/mentoring of clinical staff and enthusiasm for education.
