Job Overview The Lab Assistant provides essential support to the Transfusion Service Department by assisting with specimen receiving, supply and reagent management, and organization of records and files,
The role ensures efficient daily operations and support to Blood Bank Technologist
Qualifications Required: Highschool diploma or GED required
Preferred:
Previous laboratory, medical office, or healthcare experience preferred
Essential Functions
Specimen processing to ensure acceptability for blood bank testing
Assist in gathering and documenting quality control data
Maintain accurate records
Maintain and monitor for pneumatic tube station when needed for specimen receipt
Utilize LIS to review requisitions and submit necessary test or replacement specimen
Record and receive supplies and reagents to inventory and manage storage location
Prepare blood product segment for testing
Utilize archive software and computer for record retention per established protocol
Report event report using the hospital-based event reporting system
