Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Underwriter for a mission‑driven public‑sector partner dedicated to expanding access to safe, affordable housing. This is a 100% onsite role based in Kansas City, Missouri.

POSITION OVERVIEW This role supports the evaluation and advancement of multifamily affordable housing developments from initial review through construction completion. Working collaboratively within a small underwriting team, this position plays a critical role in ensuring projects are financially feasible, compliant, and positioned for long‑term success. The Underwriter will partner closely with internal colleagues and external development stakeholders to move high‑impact housing initiatives forward.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Underwrite and manage assigned multifamily housing developments from application review through construction completion and initial lease‑up

Evaluate development proposals, proformas, and due diligence materials to assess feasibility, risk, and compliance with applicable housing programs

Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to support closings, documentation, and project milestones

Provide clear guidance and technical support to developers and stakeholders throughout the development process

Maintain accurate records, reports, and data to support program administration and decision‑making

Stay current on affordable housing industry practices, regulations, and evolving standards

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience underwriting or financially analyzing multifamily or real‑estate development projects

Familiarity with affordable housing programs such as LIHTC, HUD, HOME, or similar funding sources

Strong analytical, organizational, and project‑management skills

High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with financial models and data

Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse groups

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS This position offers an annual salary of $75,000 along with a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees’ health, financial stability, and work‑life balance.
