The Finance department is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Controller to lead our accounting operations and help drive financial efficiency, compliance, and reporting accuracy. This individual will be a key partner to the CFO and senior leadership, bringing a strong understanding of the engineering consulting industry, especially within the ACEC framework, and a demonstrated commitment to financial integrity.
Job Responsibilities:
Oversee all accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, payroll, cost accounting, and revenue recognition
Lead the month-end and year-end close process with accuracy and timeliness
Ensure compliance with FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation), GAAP, and other regulatory frameworks
Manage internal and external financial audits and act as primary liaison with auditors
Support the CFO with financial strategy, risk management, and long-term planning
Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to the executive team and Board
Supervise and develop accounting staff; foster a high-performance, accountable team culture
Collaborate with project managers and leadership on budget forecasting, job costing, and profitability analysis
Maintain and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Manage indirect cost rates and prepare overhead rate submissions to various State and Local agencies.
Partner with HR and operations on payroll, benefits, and tax compliance matters
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum of 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or controller role
Prior experience in the architecture, engineering, or environmental consulting industry; ACEC-member firm background highly preferred
Deep knowledge of project-based accounting, FAR, and indirect cost rate calculations
Compensation Compensation will range from $170K to $200K and commensurate with experience.
