Job Title: HVAC/R Technician
Job Description
The HVAC/R Technician is responsible for inspecting, operating, maintaining, and repairing central plant equipment, including cooling towers, pumps, fans, engines, generators, turbines, liquid chillers, compressors, compressed air systems, vacuum systems, heating and ventilating equipment, and related auxiliary equipment. The technician performs tests, submits reports, and documents all work and activities. Additionally, the technician supervises others engaged in work in the Central or Refrigeration Plants and serves as Watch Engineer as assigned. The role involves performing all related duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, Plant Manager, or Site Manager.
Responsibilities
Inspect, operate, maintain, and repair central plant equipment.
Supervise and coordinate work for plant personnel, including maintenance mechanics, plumbers, electricians, maintenance workers, and trades helpers.
Operate and regulate chilled water generation systems and all associated equipment.
Respond to alarms and system failures, taking corrective action as needed.
Record operational data such as equipment run hours, temperatures, pressures, fuel usage, and equipment status changes in accordance with regulatory and safety requirements.
Adhere to all safety and security procedures established by Plant Management, Facilities Management, and Environmental Health & Safety.
Prioritize tasks in the absence of direct instruction from the Chief Watch Engineer and inspect completed work for quality and completeness.
Maintain professional relationships with external service contractors and ensure contracted work is performed safely and efficiently.
Operate plant systems as needed to support contractor activities, including starting, stopping, and testing Central Plant systems.
Essential Skills
Expertise in refrigeration systems
Proficient in troubleshooting and repair of HVAC systems
Knowledge of system installation for HVAC and refrigeration
Understanding of electrical fundamentals
Basic plumbing and hydronics skills
Tool proficiency (meters, gauges, torches)
Knowledge of refrigerant handling and EPA 608 certification
Familiarity with controls and smart thermostat systems
Experience in preventive maintenance
Ventilation and air flow knowledge
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in operating and maintaining cooling towers, chilled water pumps, and related systems
Ability to utilize computerized control systems to monitor and adjust plant operations
Experience in operating and monitoring medical gas systems

Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Fort Worth, TX.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr.
