This position is only open to Colorado state residents. Location: Craig, CO. This vacancy is a working supervisor that will be located out of Craig, CO. Highway/Roadway Maintenance Lead Worker with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B that allows operation in Colorado. Total annual compensation for this position is typically between $68,244 - $70,944. Base pay for this position is typically $68,244 - $70,944 per year. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year. The Transportation Maintenance III (TM III) position is a working Supervisor with responsibilities above and beyond regular maintenance duties. As a working Supervisor, you are responsible for the overall maintenance and operations of a geographical area within the Region, supporting and making major patrol decisions to plan, develop, administer, and manage programs such as MS-4 regulations and EPA requirements.
This position is responsible for reacting in emergency situations, such as avalanches and road failures.
This position includes signature authority for expenditures, approval authority for employee credit card use, expense report approval, supply ordering approval, and leave approval, among others. At the Supervisory level, you may recommend corrective actions, staffing patterns, equipment purchases, regional policy changes, and more. This position maintains a strong working relationship with the LTC Ops I in the Unit and supports higher-level decisions.
Responsibilities (select examples)
Ensures a safe and healthy work environment; maintains morale and productivity.
Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of Transportation Maintenance Worker II's and other staff.
Ensures compliance with applicable policies, laws, rules and regulations.
Coordinates with other Transportation Maintenance Supervisors and LTC Ops; supervises maintenance activities within plans, specifications, and agency standards; manages staffing, equipment, and budget within region dollars to meet service levels.
Leads through training, mentoring and coaching; monitors performance and addresses issues.
Supervises snow and ice control programs.
Supports and coordinates operations, especially in emergencies; responds to incidents and coordinates with State Patrol and other agencies.
Represents CDOT with cities, counties, groups, officials, and the public.
Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
Exposure to loud noise, fumes, odors, gases, dusts, etc.
Requires use of appropriate personal protective equipment and potentially respirators.
Work around heavy traffic; work at heights up to 10–20 feet; operate heavy equipment (e.g., backhoe, tractor, bucket truck, forklift, skid steer, loader, aerial devices, etc.).
Must be willing to drive CDOT vehicles; exposure to high voltage; nights and weekends may be required.
Respond to emergencies outside regular hours; possible overtime during emergencies or inclement weather.
Extreme temperatures and varying elevations up to 12,000 feet; use of computers for daily duties.
Typical work week is 40 hours with periodic overtime for emergencies or weather events.
Minimum Qualifications
At least five (5) years of road/highway maintenance experience, including two (2) years as an official work lead over a maintenance crew.
Examples of road/highway maintenance experience: repairing potholes; paving operations; operating heavy equipment; maintaining right-of-way fences; striping and signing; mechanical mowing; bridge, ditch, and culvert maintenance; sign or guardrail maintenance; mechanical snow removal; traffic control.
Examples of work lead experience: leading and mentoring at least two full-time employees, setting performance goals, assigning tasks, prioritizing work, resource identification, safety checks, and emergency handling. (Equivalent classifications include Highway Maintenance Worker II; Equipment Operator IV; Pipe/Mechanical Trades at a tunnel; Structural Trades for bridge/traffic/roadwork.)

Must possess and maintain a valid CDL Class A or B with no restrictions on air brakes that allows operation within Colorado.
If you have a non-Colorado CDL, you must be eligible to drive in Colorado at time of hire and transfer your CDL to Colorado within 30 days of relocation.
Must pass pre-employment screening (background checks, driving records, etc.).
May be required to pass a drug test and a DOT physical.
On-call work; shift work; essential services designation.
May be required to live within 30 minutes driving time to respond to emergencies.
New employees: two weeks of maintenance training; veterans: one week annually. Training may be computer-based or in Aurora.
May be required to obtain a Hazardous Materials endorsement within 6–12 months.
Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular hours and work weekends/holidays.
