About the Role Tanaq Environmental is seeking an

Environmental Compliance Specialist

responsible for providing multimedia environmental support and assessing facility operations for compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, permits, and plans. The specialist will support TANAQ’s environmental projects by maintaining adherence to these requirements. The role focuses on projects with federal contracts, requiring a strong understanding of CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA, NEPA, and specific agency requirements (e.g., EPA, USACE). Responsibilities include developing and implementing compliance plans, conducting site inspections, preparing reports, and interacting with regulatory agencies. It is a remote work role with 25‑40% annual travel within the United States, depending on project requirements.

Responsibilities

Prepare plans, permit applications, and reports for environmental compliance areas such as Clean Water Act (Sections 401, 402, 404), NPDES/Stormwater, SPCC/Oil Pollution Act, storage tank management, RCRA, EPCRA, solid waste, air quality, and wastewater programs.

Provide multimedia environmental support and assessment of facility operations to ensure compliance with regulations, permits, and plans, including on‑site assistance as needed.

Identify potential compliance issues and recommend corrective actions in technical reports and oral communication.

Deliver client support by providing training on environmental compliance topics, in‑person or online, as directed by the project manager.

Requirements Required Experience and Skills

3‑5 years of experience in multimedia environmental compliance consulting.

Knowledge of environmental regulations and standards such as Clean Water Act, 40 CFR 112 (SPCC), NPDES/Stormwater, EPCRA, etc.

Strong understanding of RCRA hazardous waste regulations, including definitions, listings, characteristics, and EPA waste determination requirements.

Ability to perform accurate waste profiling using analytical data, SDS review, and process knowledge.

Experience with ISO 14001 environmental management systems is a plus.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.

Organizational skills and ability to plan, manage multiple tasks.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team across various locations, maintaining high quality and accuracy.

Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and personal responsibility.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Must obtain clearance to access military bases and federal installations for job duties.

U.S. citizen.

Education and Training

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences or an Engineering discipline.

Physical Requirements

Must be able and willing to travel 25‑40% annually within the United States.

Physically able to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable conditions.

Ability to perform fieldwork activities such as walking long distances, climbing ladders, carrying equipment, bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, standing, power gripping, operating vehicles, and lifting up to 75 pounds depending on the situation.

May need to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, shoes/boots, hard hats, hearing protection, and respirator.

Must work in a hybrid remote arrangement with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and computer work.
