Overview Tanaq Environmental, LLC. (TEL) delivers environmental engineering, investigation, consulting, and remediation services to local, state, and federal agencies in hazardous & toxic waste restoration and military munitions site management. TEL is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation committed to serving federal customers and supporting the Alaskan native community.

About The Role The Environmental Compliance Specialist provides multi‑media environmental support and assessments of facility operations to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, permits, and plans. The role focuses on federal contract projects and requires strong knowledge of CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA, NEPA, and specific agency requirements (e.g., EPA, USACE). Responsibilities include developing compliance plans, conducting site inspections, preparing reports, and interacting with regulatory agencies. This role is remote and may require 25‑40% annual travel within the United States.

Responsibilities

Prepare plans, permit applications, and reports for environmental compliance areas such as CWA, NPDES/Stormwater, SPCC/Oil Pollution Act, storage tank management, RCRA, EPCRA, solid waste, air quality, and wastewater programs.

Provide multi‑media environmental support and assessment of facility operations to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, permits, and plans.

Identify potential compliance issues and offer recommendations for corrective actions in technical reports and through oral communication.

Deliver client support by providing training on environmental compliance topics, in person or online, as directed by the project manager.

Required Experience and Skills

Minimum 3‑5 years of experience in multi‑media environmental compliance consulting.

Working knowledge of environmental regulations and standards (CWA, SPCC, NPDES, EPCRA, etc.).

Strong understanding of RCRA hazardous waste regulations, including solid waste definitions, hazardous waste listings/characteristics, and EPA waste determination requirements.

Ability to perform accurate waste profiling using analytical data, SDS review, and process knowledge.

Experience with environmental management systems and ISO 14001 standards is a plus.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.

Organizational skills and ability to plan and manage multiple tasks.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, providing consistently high quality and accuracy.

Professional demeanor with a positive, solution‑seeking attitude and personal responsibility.

Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record.

Ability to obtain clearance to access military bases and other federal installations.

U.S. citizen.

Education and Training

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences or an engineering discipline.

Physical Requirements

Travel to job sites and client meetings 25‑40% annually within the United States.

Work in outdoor environments with variable conditions (heat, cold, dust, noise, chemicals, moisture, vibration).

Perform field work including walking long distances, climbing ladders, carrying equipment, bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching.

Operate vehicles and lift 25‑50 pounds; occasional handling of 50‑75 pounds.

Use personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, boots, hard hats, hearing protection, and respirators as required.

Work in a hybrid remote arrangement, spending prolonged periods at a desk and on a computer.
