Job Title: Mechanical Designer Location:
Richmond, VA
What We Are Looking For We are looking for a Mechanical Designer who will provide high‑quality design and technical support for the Dover Food Retail refrigeration display cases.
Responsibilities
Independently review project specifications.
Determine sizing and ordering of items.
Provide customer drawings.
Meet tight design deadlines and work overtime when required.
Lead technical discussions regarding design issues or proposed changes internally and externally.
Complete detailed designs, including drawing and bill of materials creation for shop manufacturing and assembly.
Collaborate with the Electrical Design group to ensure consistent design expectations.
Work with all production areas to ensure equipment is designed, manufactured, assembled, and shipped with the utmost quality.
Develop strong relationships across all company departments.
Work with suppliers to obtain information on commercial components.
Other tasks as assigned by manager.
Engage with production shop floor areas (laser, fabrication, welding, assembly, testing) to understand operations.
Organize and compile project‑specific documentation for internal and external customers and support it post‑shipment.
Maintain and update operating instructions as needed.
Basic Qualifications
Associate’s degree or higher in mechanical design (or equivalent experience).
Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks).
Preferred Qualifications
Technical training in sheet metal design, machine shop function, electric motors, gears or mechanical devices.
Experience with 3D CAD design, preferably sheet metal.
Bill of material creation and interaction.
Exposure to a fabrication and/or welding shop environment.
