Job Title: Civil Designer
Location: Richmond, VA
Join the dynamic Water/Wastewater Group at Timmons Group. The role involves civil site design tasks for a variety of water and wastewater infrastructure projects in a fast‑paced environment that values teamwork, training and ownership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Use professional judgment to independently complete assigned engineering designs.
Lead and execute civil site design tasks across diverse infrastructure projects.
Collaborate closely with Project Managers and mentor junior engineers.
Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure technical accuracy.
Make impactful design decisions that align with client goals and project timelines.
Identify and resolve technical, scheduling, or financial challenges.
Support construction oversight and respond to contractor inquiries.
Contribute to proposals, cost estimates, and client communications.
Act as a technical expert on assigned projects and, when required, serve as Project Manager on smaller or specialty projects.
Skills and Requirements
At least three years of design/engineering experience in municipal infrastructure.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Experience with other engineering automation tools (Revit, BIM 360) is preferred.
Strong technical verbal and written communication skills; ability to read technical literature and engineering plans.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to apply professional knowledge to routine and non‑routine tasks.
Effective two‑way communication with internal staff.
