Principal Consultant @ AVA Energy | Offshore Engineering Overview The Installation Methods Engineer is responsible for developing safe, efficient, and technically sound installation methodologies for offshore construction activities. This includes subsea structures, pipelines, umbilicals, foundations, and topsides installation, supporting projects from tender through execution.
The role requires close collaboration with project, construction, vessel, and discipline engineering teams to ensure installation activities are feasible, optimised, and compliant with project and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop installation methodologies, procedures, and work packs for offshore construction activities
Prepare detailed installation sequences, lifting studies, and step-by-step execution plans
Define equipment requirements including vessels, cranes, rigging, and installation tools
Input into constructability reviews and installation feasibility assessments
Analysis & Technical Support
Specify and review engineering analyses such as:
Lift analysis
Seafastening design and checks
Installation stability and motion analyses
Interface with structural, naval, geotechnical, and hydrodynamic teams to validate installation concepts
Project & Interface Management
Support tendering activities with installation concepts, schedules, and cost drivers
Interface with vessel operators, subcontractors, and equipment suppliers
Participate in HAZID / HAZOP / SIMOPS workshops
Provide onshore and offshore technical support during execution
Documentation & Compliance
Prepare and review:
Method statements
Risk assessments and task plans
Ensure compliance with project specifications, class rules, and applicable international standards
Support client and third-party reviews and approvals
Required Qualifications & Experience Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Offshore, or Structural Engineering
Experience
Typically 3–10+ years’ experience in offshore installation engineering
Experience with one or more of the following:
Subsea structures installation
Heavy lifts and module installation
Previous experience on EPCI or offshore construction projects preferred
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of offshore installation practices and marine operations
Familiarity with offshore vessels and equipment (crane vessels, pipelay vessels, barges)
Experience using engineering tools such as:
OrcaFlex, MOSES, SESAM, or similar (advantageous)
Ability to interpret design drawings and translate them into executable installation plans
