Job Description Summary The Sr. Demolition Worker isolates asbestos-containing or lead-contaminated work areas from a given structure and from outside areas. This position removes asbestos-containing materials from structural items and equipment as well as performs construction, demolition, and pipe insulation work.

Responsibilities
Isolates asbestos-containing or lead-contaminated work areas from other areas of a given structure and from outside areas by erecting airtight temporary partitions.
Seals doors and windows and otherwise decontaminates work and adjoining areas.
Razes all or a portion of a structure that contains asbestos-containing materials, which may become friable if crushed or broken.
Disassembles handles and moves components of the structure that have been coated with asbestos-containing materials.
Removes asbestos-containing materials in both friable and non-friable states from structural items and/or equipment.
Encapsulates friable asbestos-containing material with a coating or penetrating sealing substance for the purpose of preventing the release of asbestos fibers from the material into the air.
Prepares asbestos-containing materials for disposal, wets, bags, and places them in approved containers.
Operates HEPA filter vacuuming and ventilation devices and/or employs wet cleaning methods to assure clean air and surfaces during and at completion of work.
Transports labeled asbestos or lead-materials to approved waste disposal areas.
Performs demolition and reuse preparation of work sites for construction projects.
Handles pipe insulation, removal, and re-insulation for the maintenance group.
Assists Discretionary/Move shop and Construction shops as needed.
Ensure activities are conducted professionally and ethically, and in accordance with KUMC Policies and applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Performs job responsibilities safely and securely.
Ensure coordination of area work with other areas of KUMC to ensure integration and support of KUMC goals and objectives.
Develop, maintain, and expand job-specific knowledge and skills to keep pace with industry changes and support the university's commitment to excellence and innovation.
May participate in relevant committees, task force, or other similar activities.
Maintain confidentiality of medical center, employee, and patient information. Handle sensitive data with discretion and in accordance with KUMC policies and legal requirements.

Required Qualifications
Three (3) years of experience in the building trades.
Must meet fit-testing requirements for required personal protection equipment (PPE).

At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
