Position Overview

– Senior HR Generalist provides comprehensive HR support within the Human Resources Department. Key responsibilities include classified recruiting, staffing, promotions, civilian staffing, and database management. This role also supports additional functions as needed.

Responsibilities

Process HFD HR activities in accordance with the City of Houston Civil Service Code of Ordinance, Chapter 14, Local Government Code Chapter 143, bargaining agreements, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Provide professional HR support for HFD classified staffing, classified promotions, civilian staffing, and database management reporting.

Mentor, process, hire, lead, and assist with administering physical ability tests to firefighter trainee and cadet applicants.

Participate in diversity recruiting efforts, including job fairs, target recruit seminars, and marketing activities to build working relationships.

Post civilian staffing positions via NeoGov, source and place candidates, complete hiring paperwork and electronic steps.

Assist with development and revision of policies, procedures, SOPs, etc.

Prepare and analyze scheduled and impromptu reports, maintain and update data for leadership requests.

Research, collect, and analyze data.

Lead or assist with special assignments, scheduling, pre‑screening, projects, and other assigned activities.

Working Conditions

The position is physically comfortable; discretion over walking and standing.

Required to drive a city vehicle to various locations; must possess a valid Texas Driver License.

Required to administer/proctor physical ability tests at the training academy.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

Work may occur in inclement weather.

Minimum Requirements Education Requirements

– Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Science, Liberal Arts, or closely related field.

Experience Requirements

– Three years of related professional HR experience.

Pertinent experience at the professional level may substitute for the education requirement on a year‑for‑year basis.

License Requirements

– None.

Advanced MS Office Excel and Word skills.

Meticulous attention to accuracy and ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.

Leadership potential, high organizational, time‑management and prioritizing skills.

Excellent problem‑solving, communication and people skills.

Salary Information Pay Grade: 21. Salary will be based on qualifications and comparable employee pay rates.
