Automotive Technology Instructor (Apprenticeships) (Full-Time, Tenure-Track)

Posting Number AA2025-2038 Location: Fresno City College Campus, Fresno, California Position Overview We seek an equity-minded leader committed to student success and collaborative practice. The ideal candidate shares our commitment to serving a diverse student population and will teach automotive technology, advanced technology vehicle (ATV), and zero emission vehicle (ZEV) courses on campus and off-site community locations. Essential Functions Teaching automotive technology/advanced technology vehicle (ATV)/zero emission vehicle (ZEV) curriculum, including engine repair, diagnosis, maintenance, shop safety, measurement, basic hand tools, engine rebuilding, transmissions, chassis electrical systems, hydraulic/air brakes, suspension and steering, axles/drive axles/differentials, engine electrical systems, engine performance and emissions, air conditioning, heating, and smog check license preparation. Communicating effectively with students and staff. Assisting in course and curriculum design, program review, developing and coordinating instructional aids with Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) and OEM LMS. Assisting with development and teaching of short-term courses such as smog/smoke certification, brakes and alignment, electrical vehicles, and zero emission vehicles. Assisting with the development and monitoring of the instructional budget. Advising students. Participating in recruiting activities. Participating in professional meetings and workshops. Serving on department, college, and district committees as needed. Participating in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning. Teaching assignments in various instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off-campus, and large group instruction classes as needed. Fulfilling all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, emphasizing equity-minded practice within the classroom. Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of full-time equivalent professional experience; or Associate degree and six (6) years of full-time equivalent professional experience; or Valid California Community College Credential; or Equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency). Desirable Qualifications Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all responsibilities. Recent work with minority students and understanding of historical exclusion patterns. Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to engage racially minoritized students. Teaching experience. Related work and professional experience. Training in automotive/diesel/MDHD truck/transit bus systems such as engine repair, hydraulic/air brakes, electrical systems, transmissions, differential systems, and chassis services. Training in zero emission technology/advanced technology vehicles. Ability to involve students in practical applications related to industry. Strong computer skills. Membership in professional automotive/diesel organizations and possession of ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician (A series) and California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Smog Technician certification. Experience with OEM training and ASE Education Foundation Program Standard 10.3 (Preferred OEM Training: GM, Stellantis, Ford, Subaru, Toyota, Honda, and/or MDHD Truck). Experience working with diverse students. Knowledge of development and assessment of student learning objectives for apprenticeship technicians. Knowledge of apprenticeship/local union program for central California. Experience teaching at the community college level. Demonstrated effective communication with students and staff. Potential to contribute to institutional vitality and growth. Knowledge of community college mission and goals. Conditions of Employment 178 duty days per year. Starting annual salary ranges from $71,054 to $106,970 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. The selection committee rates responses, teaching demonstrations, and writing prompt (if applicable). Recommended candidates receive final interviews with the Vice President and College President, followed by recommendation to the Board of Trustees.
