Key Responsibilities
Install, troubleshoot, test, splice, repair, and maintain telephone equipment, general network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber optics, copper facilities, and other TDS products.
Configure, maintain, and repair PBX, Key Systems, Centrex Systems, business systems, fiber terminals, POTS, ISDN, DSL, T‑1s, DS3s, and other carrier equipment.
Locate and repair defective cables using test equipment; log locate requests in our exchange system.
Maintain central office equipment such as switches, operating software, voicemail systems, and fiber terminals; provide backup and functional support.
Provide advanced troubleshooting support and respond to dispatches.
Maintain record systems, including cross‑connects, line groups, and network elements.
Deliver excellent customer service, proactively educating and selling TDS products and services.
Manage installation projects and perform related supervisory functions as directed.
Required Qualifications
2+ years of technical telecommunications experience or current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
1+ year of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing, repair, or switch training.
Valid driver’s license.
Adherence to TDS attendance guidelines.
Additional Qualifications
Completion of customer‑specific background checks.
Availability for on‑call/standby duties, occasional travel, and overtime.
Completion of the Safety Course curriculum.
Ability to maintain DOT requirements for vehicles over 10,000 lbs.
Knowledge of telecommunications products, services, and related computer applications.
Strong customer service, sales, communication, organizational, and independent‑work skills.
Physical ability to operate heavy construction machinery, dig, lift, and climb as required.
Manual transmission vehicle operation.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Regular sitting, standing, writing, and computer operation. Frequent movement, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, and climbing. Ability to lift up to 50 lb regularly and up to 100 lb occasionally. Includes outdoor work, mechanical rooms, and potential extreme weather conditions.
