Staff Accountant - Dairy Manufacturing

General Purpose
Perform general accounting duties following established procedures and guidelines. Complete assigned daily ledger entries and other financial transactions in accordance with accounting principles. Collect and compile financial information and assist in preparing accurate and timely financial reports and accounting statements for management. Assist business unit or location in meeting monthly closing deadlines. Maintain and report accurate and timely financial information, ensuring appropriate controls and compliance processes are followed.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements, providing timely and accurate accounting entries within the group or plant
Maintain financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts
Prepare journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations and assist with monthly close processes; ensure entries are reconciled, reviewed, and have appropriate supporting documentation
Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations
Perform a variety of accounting duties that may include:
Coding invoices and setting up new accounts
Reconciling bank accounts, verifying deposits, and addressing inquiries from banks
Reconciling cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; managing accounts receivable collections
Verifying and/or completing payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensuring payments are charged to the appropriate accounts
Providing cost accounting support by updating current costs including milk, packaging, and ingredients
Posting monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals
Prepare and/or provide information and reports as scheduled or required
Respond to information requests, reviewing financial statements, and assisting with audits
Maintain knowledge and ensure compliance of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree in accounting or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
Up to 2 years of accounting, finance, or related experience
Experience with Microsoft Office or similar software
Experience with accounting software preferred
Certification and/or License - may be required during course of employment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), balance sheet and income statement methods, internal controls, and other areas related to financial reporting
Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems, specifically accounting software
Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Able to complete arithmetic, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Able to conduct research into issues or situations
Able to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
Able to organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals (i.e., organizational skills)
Able to work with accuracy and detail oriented
Able to maintain confidentiality of information
Must be able to read, write and speak English
