Institute for Justice
The Institute for Justice, the national law firm for liberty, seeks a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join its talented Finance team at its headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Assistant Director of Accounting and will assist with the accounting day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
Support daily Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) operations, including processing invoices, payments, and receipts accurately and in a timely manner
Support and collaborate with accounts payable and receivable staff
Manage expense reimbursements, credit card reports, and reconciliations
Assist with account reconciliations, and month- and year-end close processes, including accruals and adjustments
Maintain and update financial records in compliance with the Institute’s policies and accounting standards
Collaborate with other departments to gather financial data and resolve discrepancies. Respond and resolve internal and external financial inquiries promptly
Assist with audits by providing documentation and responding to inquiries
Continuously enhance accounting knowledge and stay updated on industry trends
Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations
Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Accounting and perform additional tasks as assigned to contribute to the success of the finance team

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Accounting preferred)
2–4 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
Experience with Sage Intacct and Concur preferred
Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
Flexible work hours with our core business hours of 10am and 4pm
