American Greetings
American Greetings is looking for a Payroll Specialist to perform all phases of the payroll cycle for multi‑state and union payroll processing. This hybrid role requires working out of our Creative Studios in Westlake, Ohio, and we focus on candidates currently residing in Northeast Ohio.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Duties include time and attendance and transaction balancing, transaction processing and required governmental reporting in an accurate and timely manner with the Payroll Specialist II and Time Systems Analyst using ADP eTime and ADP Enterprise.
Works directly with the Time Systems Analyst on escalations, errors and issues.
Oversees the garnishment process for all American Greeting Associates, troubleshooting issues and serving as main contact with vendor and government agencies.
Create manual checks and understand gross‑ups.
Tracks and maintains Pay Cards.
Assists with previous period adjustments as needed.
Researches issues/discrepancies and processes necessary corrections.
Complies with the regulatory standards, policies and procedures of American Greetings.
Ensures all SOX controls are enforced and functioning as expected.
Ensures proper tax set up on an employee level for correct year‑end W‑2 processing.
Assists with quarter and year‑end balancing and reconciliations.
Looks for continuous process improvement and works with the Lead Payroll Specialist Payroll Analyst to present findings and suggested changes to Payroll Management.
Works with the Lead Payroll Specialist and Payroll Analyst documenting all processes and updates to processes.
Supports other transaction processing related functions and the SAP updates/changes as required.
Responsible for all facets of processing payroll for the 1500+ out‑of‑town – manufacturing – union payrolls including pre and post processing audits.
Back up to the Payroll Specialist II with assistance of the Lead Payroll Specialist Payroll Analyst.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Required Experience
A minimum of 2 years previous payroll processing experience.
A minimum of 2 years of garnishment experience preferred.
ADP experience preferred.
Multi‑state and local, union preferred.
Experience with an employee population size of 1,000+.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong customer service skills.
Intermediate computer skills including Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Experience with multi‑state and local payrolls.
Problem‑solving and analytical skills critical/conceptual thinking.
Basic math/accounting skills.
Education Required High school diploma or equivalent required. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.
