Responsibilities Essential Functions

Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager or Operations Coordinator, the Pharmacy Systems Specialist is responsible for oversight of all Automated Medication Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) formularies, file maintenance, security access, unit overrides, and discrepancies.

Coordinates QA testing and documentation of ADC application enhancements.

Coordinates the implementation of new ADC units and moves of current ADC units.

Responsible for the ADC training for all Pharmacy Department staff.

Involved in coordinating development and presentation of ADC in-services for Pharmacy and Nursing personnel.

Serves as liaison between Nursing and Pharmacy regarding ADC issues and problems.

Responsible for completion of ADC advanced level training.

Responsible for maintenance of Pharmacy Systems equipment and technologies as assigned.

Completes assignments in a timely, effective and efficient manner and according to departmental standards and procedures.

Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

Follows up on override report daily to determine compliance with The Joint Commission standards.

Uses ADC data to calculate medication overrides.

Analyzes ADC usage data on an ongoing basis to manage and optimize inventory which includes decreasing amount of expired drugs in ADCs, lowering the amount of times that high usage items need to be restocked and decreasing number of stock outs.

Analyzes data in reference to loads and unloads of medications in our ADCs to determine which medications need to be added to standard stock.

Analyzes controlled substance usage data to decrease inventory at ADCs to avoid diversion, decrease outdates, and increase pharmacy control over controlled substances.

Uses ADC data in reference to controlled substance discrepancies (working with nurse managers and on occasion protective services) to ensure that they are resolved properly in accordance with hospital, state, and federal policies.

Reconfigures the design of stations to decrease medication errors by nursing and/or pharmacy.

Monitors ADC user activity to maintain database and medication security.

Establishes and maintains an open communication process throughout the corporation that reaches patients, visitors, families, physicians and team members such that each feels they are treated special each time they encounter Orlando Health.

Qualifications Education/Training High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification Must be currently registered with the Florida State Board of Pharmacy, renewed every two years.

Experience Two (2) years’ experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician to include experience with pharmacy automation. Experience in MS office software including Word, Excel and Access.
