The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry & Fire Protection, is recruiting for a Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 1.2.3 Flex in Soldotna, Alaska. This position is open to all applicants.

What You Will Be Doing

Duties across all job classes include fire suppression, fire prevention, and hazardous fuel reduction. Work is arduous in nature, requiring the use of hand and power tools. Other duties include, but are not limited to, preparing and maintaining fire gear and equipment, station maintenance, etc.

Applicants must be willing and able to perform strenuous outdoor work, typically in challenging, dynamic conditions.

This position may be filled at either a 1, 2, or 3 job class level, depending on the applicant’s training and /or experience. Starting salary will be determined by the level at which the position is hired.

RED CARD REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Requirements

Qualified as FAL 3 AND FFT1 or ICT5 or ENOP or FAL2 (WFRT II).

Qualified as ICT4 AND ENGB or CRWB AND HECM or HELR (Option 1). Qualified as 2 Single Resource Boss, one being ENGB or CRWB AND Additional Single Resource Boss Trainee AND HECM or HELR (Option 2).

Must be at least eighteen years of age.

Pass the Work Capacity Test at the Arduous level (3-mile hike carrying a 45-pound pack over level terrain in 45 minutes or less).

Possess an Alaska driver’s license; conditional job offer if not held.

Travel may be required in and out-of-state, stand‑by or recall status during fire season, possible 14‑21 day absences, small aircraft operations, hazardous materials.

May require a commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements.

Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System required.

Salary and Benefits Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 1: starting salary $24.21 per hour.

Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 2: starting salary $27.25 per hour.

Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 3: starting salary $30.80 per hour.

Working Environment Based out of the Soldotna station (42499 Sterling Hwy, Soldotna, AK 99669). Requires considerable physical exertion, outdoor work in all terrain and weather, long hours, and extended periods away from home. Ability to carry up to 45 pounds, run, bend, twist, walk, and/or climb. Must pass the work capacity test at the Arduous level.
