Posting Summary A research associate position is available to support molecular breeding approaches in blueberry and cranberry. This research associate position will be housed in the Department of Plant Biology at Rutgers University, New Jersey in the Vaccinium breeding program of Dr. Gina Sideli. This position will also work with Rutgers and USDA-ARS scientists at the Philip E. Marucci Center for Blueberry and Cranberry Research and contribute to the overall mission of the center.
Position Status Full Time
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience The ideal candidate should have a PhD plus additional experience (industry or postdoc) in plant breeding, genetics or related field, and skills/experience required to carry-out molecular breeding experiments using genomics, phenomics, and bioinformatics. Candidate should have a record of submitting manuscripts through the peer-review process scientific journal. A copy of PhD certification will be required before an official offer can be given.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The applicant should be fluent in English (oral and written) and be able to communicate ideas to colleagues and conference attendees. The successful applicant can work independently as well as on a team, and supervise students in the lab. This position requires expertise in genomics such as genome-wide associations and selection, bioinformatics in handling sequence data, as well as understanding analysis for different breeding schemes and ploidy levels.

Overview This research associate position is available immediately to work on multiple research projects including but not limited to: 1) build and implement genomic and bioinformatic pipelines; 2) statistical associations between traits of interest and genotype data; 3) analysis of multi-environment trials; 4) genomic predictions of complex traits; 5) phenomics pipelines to enhance breeding. Applicants should have a PhD and postdoctoral or industry experience in genetics, plant breeding, or horticulture, preferably with experience in small fruits or perennial crops.
