Precertification Coordinator I
Department : Health System Shared Services | Precert
Position Summary The position serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors of the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) and provides exceptional customer service while ensuring the financial viability of OSUWMC. They are knowledgeable in product, process, or service line areas (physician appointment scheduling, OR/admission, full‑service scheduling, pre‑registration and registration, insurance verification, patient liability determination, and communication). The role is responsible for providing consumers (clinical staff and patients) with accurate, up‑to‑date information regarding insurance benefits, authorizations, and accurate appointment, demographic, and insurance information to support clinical and financial needs, including changes to insurance or other patient information. The coordinator supports physicians and customers by coordinating their requests and satisfying their needs in one transaction, solving routine and complex customer problems, and directing customers to the appropriate resources. Regular communication with clinical teams, medical staff, and other team members ensures customer and departmental needs are met. The precertification department uses a variety of tools and communication methods—including electronic transactions, web portals, phone calls, and faxes—to obtain authorization. Flexibility and continuous learning of new technology as it becomes available are essential. The coordinator uses a variety of software packages, including the Electronic Medical Record, scheduling and registration systems, ABN, eligibility, and document management software.
Minimum Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
0–2 years of relevant experience preferred.

Background Check : Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
