Job Summary
The Public Works Construction Inspector II performs skilled inspections for construction projects impacting the public works utilities and related infrastructure. Monitors compliance and enforces regulations.
Essential Functions
Conduct inspections in assigned public works construction projects to determine compliance with safety, structural, zoning, plans, and applicable codes and ordinances; investigate alleged violations; ensure corrections are made.
Develop and issue notices of violation and conduct follow‑up inspections; provide information to customers regarding regulations.
Inspect a variety of construction projects completed by contractors and other entities to ensure compliance with city’s paving, utility, and construction standards.
Assist and support other inspectors and construction personnel; interact and collaborate with engineers, contractors, and other agencies.
Establish inspection routes, drive to sites, document findings, and develop pass or fail reports; submit all information to ensure deficiencies are corrected.
Maintain an approved list of new materials; measure, monitor, and track quantities during construction; maintain accurate records to verify contractor invoice quantities.
Provide general customer service; engage and communicate with contractors, engineers, and other personnel.
Perform all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of city, state, or federal codes, ordinances, rules, regulations, and construction standards.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
Experience performing inspections and determining non‑compliant issues.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to produce clear written documents and reports.
Ability to keep accurate records and analyze written material.
Knowledge of customer service practices and principles.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or GED.
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience inspecting design, construction, or maintenance in streets, storm drainage systems, water/sewer mains, water/wastewater facilities, or bridge improvement projects.
Equivalency:
Associate’s degree (or higher) in construction management or engineering plus one (1) year of required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
License:
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Other Requirements:
Subject to fieldwork conditions.

Salary Range:
$52,243.19 – $60,002.60 (Starting salary range; amount offered will depend on qualifications).
