Department Information
10 rooms dedicated to Interventional Radiology
Average patients/day: 46‑50 cases
Minimum experience: 2 years in IR/Neuro‑IR at Level 1 Trauma
First‑time traveler accepted
Patient Types / Common Diagnoses
Interventional Radiology – Comprehensive Stroke Center (Stroke, Cancer, Tumors, blocked vessels – Peripheral, Carotid, IVC, SVC)
Neuro: Stroke, Ruptures, Subdural fistulas – complex Neuro cases can be seen (3 Neurosurgeons on staff)
Body: complex bleeds, oncology services (Liver and other cancers), abscess drains and other interventions
Licensing and Certification Requirements
IR Tech: BLS; ARRT‑R or RCIS
Other: National Certification, BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, driver’s license, insurance
Required Skills
Scrubbing and assisting in procedures; ability to circulate/operate on the back‑end for procedures (2 techs per case)
Knowledgeable about equipment
Support within the Department
Tech extenders – 3 currently on staff (rotate through department – transport/inventory)
2 techs per room
4 neuro providers – neuro radiologist and 3 surgeons
5 body docs
Technology / Equipment
EMR: EPIC Encompass
Imaging systems: Siemens, GE, Philips; US units: GE
Orientation
Up to 2 weeks in department, based on experience and comfort level
Scheduling
Schedule cycle: every 8 weeks
Other Notes
Scrub color: hospital provided
Parking: Free
Department culture: Very green with new grads – need to be comfortable with new grads and preceptorship, if needed
