Laboratory Technician

The Laboratory Technician position is primarily responsible for processing customer samples at various stages throughout the laboratory operation in accordance with standard operating procedures. These duties can range from receiving and storing samples, prepping samples for DNA extraction, DNA extraction, and running DNA on various assays to generate data for customers.
The Laboratory Technician role is also responsible for restocking inventory in the lab, basic troubleshooting on equipment, and participating in continuous improvement projects. The Laboratory Technician will also participate in CAPA (Corrective and Preventative Actions) investigations that result in process improvements.
Position Responsibilities
Process, store, and dispose of customer samples according to standard operating procedures – 75%
Maintain supply inventory using appropriate software – 5%
Perform basic troubleshooting on equipment – 5%
Report deviations from SOPs or unexpected results in a timely fashion – 5%
Contribute ideas and participate in initiatives for continuous improvement – 5%
Perform other duties as assigned by Team Lead or Laboratory Operations Manager – 5%

Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor of Science degree preferred.
0-3+ years of relevant experience; Genetics or Manufacturing experience preferred.
Familiarity with GLP/GMP practices.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) applications.
Experience with continuous improvement projects is preferred.
Experience using standard laboratory equipment and reagents is preferred.
Experience with inventory management is preferred.
Experience in a regulated environment is preferred.
Technical Skills Requirements
Detail oriented.
Strong communication skills – orally and written.
Strong work ethic – independently and in a team environment.
Comfortable in a rapidly changing environment.
The ability to identify and solve moderately complex problems.
The ability to make decisions that have a moderate impact on others and the business.
Accountable for adhering to company standards, guidelines, and values.
Physical Position Requirements
Long periods of sitting or standing.
Ability to lift 20-30lbs.
Onsite position.
Overtime/weekend work may be required from time to time.
