Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH), part of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), is hiring for two Physician (On-Call) roles to meet on‑call needs in Middletown.
Position Highlights
Work schedule: 16‑hour weekday shift (4:30 pm to 8:30 am) or 24‑hour weekend shift (8:30 am to 8:30 am)
Location: 1000 Silver Street, Middletown, CT
Employment type: Full‑time
Seniority level: Associate
Job function: Health Care Provider – Government Administration
What You’ll Be Doing
Provide 24‑hour medical supervision to specified patient groups and facility coverage, including on‑call and weekend coverage
Examine, diagnose and medically treat patients with medical, mental and substance‑abuse disorders
Develop and monitor integrated treatment plans and coordinate care with other therapeutic programs
Perform physical examinations, order, analyze and interpret laboratory tests, X‑rays and other medical reports
Prescribe appropriate medications and treatments, and monitor special procedures as required
Participate in staff meetings, maintain accurate medical records, and prepare required reports per hospital policy, JCAHO, and HCFA standards
Perform discharge planning and provide medical expertise to treatment teams
Qualifications Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Knowledge of medicine and surgery principles; current assessment and treatment of medical, mental, and substance‑abuse disorders
Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Ability to examine, diagnose, treat patients; prescribe medications; interpret lab reports; maintain accurate records
Minimum Qualifications – General Experience
Completion of one (1) year of a residency program
Special Requirements
Eligibility for federal health care programs per 42 U.S. § 1320a‑7b(f)
License to practice medicine and surgery in Connecticut (temporary license may be granted for up to one year)
Demonstrated competency through an established agency program
Board certification in internal medicine, family medicine, or neurology (may be required)
Bilingual proficiency (may be required)
