Physician (On‑Call) (Variable Rate) – Office/On‑Site – Connecticut Department of Administrative Services (Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services). Location: 1000 Silver Street, Middletown, CT. Salary: $100/hour (possible increase). Job Type: Open to the Public. Apply before 1/22/2026.
Overview This on‑call physician will provide comprehensive medical supervision to patients in the Connecticut Valley Hospital. The role includes clinical examination, diagnosis, treatment, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams, with a focus on medical and substance‑abuse disorders.
Work Schedule
16‑hour weekday shift, 4:30 pm – 8:30 am
24‑hour weekend shift, 8:30 am – 8:30 am
Responsibilities
Provide 24‑hour medical supervision to patients and facility coverage as scheduled.
Examine, diagnose, and medically treat patients with medical, mental, and substance‑abuse disorders.
Develop and monitor integrated treatment plans and coordinate care with other therapeutic programs.
Perform physical examinations, order, analyze, and interpret medical and laboratory tests.
Prescribe appropriate medications and treatments, including special procedures.
Provide medical expertise and consultation to treatment teams.
Participate in staff meetings, maintain accurate records, and prepare required reports.
Perform discharge planning and related duties as required.
Qualifications
Completion of at least one (1) year of a residency program.
Eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. 1320a‑7b(f).
License to practice medicine and surgery in Connecticut (temporary license may be granted for up to one year).
Board certification in internal medicine, family medicine, or neurology (preferred).
Bilingual proficiency (preferred).
Demonstrated competency and proficiency in the practice of medicine by completing an established agency program.
Special Requirements
All candidates must undergo a comprehensive medical examination, including drug screening, upon a conditional offer of employment.
All state employees must adhere to Connecticut's Policy for a Drug‑Free Workplace.
