Job Overview First Baptist Church of Warren, Texas, is seeking a pastor who can spiritually and physically guide us to fulfill God’s plan for our congregation and community. First Baptist Church serves not only Warren but also the surrounding communities of Wildwood, Ivanhoe, Lake Hyatt, Hillister, and Fred. Through family meals, youth programs, and service projects, we strive to be a beacon of hope and unity.

Responsibilities

Lead the church in fulfilling the Great Commission and the Baptist Faith and Message.

Deliver the gift of preaching, serve as a persuasive communicator of the Gospel, and provide encouragement and guidance for church leaders and committees.

Supervise staff, evaluate their work, administer the program of the church, and develop and recommend strategic goals and actions to meet the needs of the church and community.

Develop a budget that supports those goals, motivate lay leaders to achieve them.

Visit and counsel church members to provide encouragement and support during times of special need, being warm, friendly, and approachable to all age groups.

Provide effective witness of Jesus Christ, lead evangelism, outreach, mission education, and mission projects, and emphasize the need for qualified people to respond to God’s call to missions and ministry.

Adopt a leadership style focused on influence and persuasion rather than control and coercion.

Be inclusive, uphold historic Baptist distinctives including the primacy of scripture, dignity of every person, priesthood of the believer, freedom of conscience, and religious liberty.

Lead the church to cooperate with community groups and other Christian entities at local, state, and national levels, and articulate the ministry of our church.

Discipleship Ministries at Sunset

Lead Discipleship Ministry Leaders (Sunset Kids and Youth Leaders) and partner with key leaders to support parents and disciple kids of all ages.

Directly oversee Community Groups, providing support, leadership, and active multiplication aligned with the overall vision of the groups.

Give attention and prayer to the health of ministry leaders and commit to their personal discipleship.

Develop and equip new ministry leaders as opportunity, need and circumstance requires.

Partner with leaders to help them carry out a compelling vision and plan for becoming disciples of Jesus in all aspects of life.

Help leaders recruit, develop, equip, and empower servants for discipleship efforts.

General Qualifications

Committed to following Jesus and to their own formation into His image.

A disciple of Jesus who has made disciples of Jesus.

Qualified to be an elder according to 1 Timothy 3:1‑7 and Titus 1:5‑9.

Willing to join and engage with Sunset Community Church as an active member.

Aligned with Sunset’s theological beliefs, distinctives, and ministry vision.

Excited to partner together to pursue Sunset’s mission to “love God, love people, and love our city”.

Education and Experience

3+ years of pastoral leadership experience.

Bachelor’s degree; Seminary degree preferred; open to leaders God is calling with a non‑traditional path, depending on experience.
