Director of Golf Opportunity at Suntree Country Club Suntree Country Club, a vibrant 36‑hole residential country club community located in Melbourne, Florida, is seeking to place a highly capable, experienced PGA/LPGA professional in the position of Director of Golf. The Director of Golf’s charismatic leadership and team‑building skills will be key to the successful candidate’s future success. Visibility, member engagement, and authentic enjoyment of building member relationships are important responsibilities for the new Director of Golf. The ability to relate to fellow team members, club leadership, and committees in a professional, respectful, and diplomatic manner is desired.

About Suntree Country Club Established in 1975, Suntree Country Club is a private, member‑owned community created exclusively for the enjoyment, relaxation, and fellowship of its Members, their families, and guests. The beautifully landscaped estate features 36 holes of championship golf, designed respectively by Robert Trent Jones and Arnold Palmer, along with a state‑of‑the‑art short‑game practice facility. Members enjoy a comprehensive suite of amenities, including a 13‑court racquets complex with tennis and pickleball, an expansive multi‑purpose sport court, and an oversized swimming pool with a newly expanded sundeck and poolside bar—ideal for casual, year‑round gatherings. A diverse selection of dining venues and an active social calendar provide engaging experiences for all ages, offering activities and special events designed to exceed Member expectations.

Suntree Country Club continues to invest in the quality and long‑term sustainability of its facilities through a series of strategic capital improvements. The club completed a major Driving Range Upgrade in November 2025 and will further enhance course conditions in Spring 2026 with irrigation head replacements and additions on the Classic Course, along with new irrigation additions on the Challenge Course. Both golf courses are scheduled for Bulkhead Replacements throughout Spring and Fall 2026. Additionally, the club will elevate its curb appeal and overall aesthetics with landscape upgrades along St. Andrews Boulevard planned for Spring 2026. In 2026 Suntree Country Club will begin a Facilities Master Plan that includes all buildings on the property.

Organizational Structure The Director of Golf will report to the General Manager/Chief Operating Officer and be an integral part of the senior leadership team. The Director of Golf will attend all Golf Committee and Greens Committee meetings on an ongoing basis and other meetings as required by the GM/COO. They will partner closely with the Golf Course Superintendent on course setup, conditions, and playability.

Director Of Golf – Position Overview The Director of Golf is truly the “golf ambassador” of the Club. He or she must embody the highest levels of integrity, professionalism, and diplomacy, and be a highly active and engaged presence with both members and staff. He or she will be a “go‑to” individual who takes ownership of the operation and is a fully engaged senior manager. The ideal candidate is a true visionary for Suntree Country Club’s golf operations and beyond. While building relationships with every constituency within the Suntree Country Club membership, the Director of Golf is someone who needs to have his or her finger on the pulse of all operations.

The Director of Golf must be an exceptional leader and manager who recognizes and respects the contributions of staff at all levels and departments. The Director of Golf must be capable of both guiding and holding staff accountable to achieve and maintain high standards. He or she will directly manage all areas of the golf operation and work closely with the Director of Agronomy and other department heads, while reporting to the General Manager/COO. The position will promote an exceptional golf experience and provide creative services and programs for all members and guests. The Director of Golf is expected to be a strategic leader of the golf experience at Suntree Country Club and, therefore, a person of intellect, vision, planning, and business acumen.

Initial Priorities of the New Director Of Golf

Ability to secure high levels of membership satisfaction

Set a standard to have a strong professional identity and culture for the Suntree Country Club professional staff and develop an effective plan to attract and retain talent

Ability to train and develop staff members in an effort to promote them to jobs of greater responsibility internally or at other clubs

Ability to develop and maintain, and consistently enforce, high standards of conduct, performance, and standard operating procedures

Design/develop and implement goals and objectives that drive the Club’s strategic plan

Ability to effectively communicate with all staff, not just in golf operations, but in all departments, recognizing that golf operations influence the property as a whole

Being consistently innovative with programming, and ensuring the same level of engagement from the golf team in his or her absence

Ensuring that all members within the Club look at him or her as an inclusive leader, and not as being partial or showing favoritism to any individual or group

Candidate Qualifications

Provide quality leadership and a positive and engaging style; be a real people person and communicate openly and freely with members and staff

Work closely with the General Manager/COO to define and perpetuate a “Suntree Country Club Member and Guest Golf Experience” that meets the high expectations of the Club’s total membership

Maintain a professional appearance and a respectful, integrity‑based style in all interactions with staff and membership

Lead and manage the overall golf program, recognizing the tremendous opportunity to grow the game at Suntree Country Club

Work closely with the Director of Agronomy and other key departments in coordinating schedules and demonstrating a strong team player leadership role

Be ambitious and motivated; provide energy and enthusiasm for both the Club and the game of golf

Be responsible for all golf operations, including merchandising/golf shop, bag room, cart barns, starters, and practice facilities

Recruit, hire, train, and develop the professional golf staff and all employees within the golf operation

Oversee golf instruction and player development programs for all member segments

Manage fiscal responsibilities for all golf areas, including planning, budgeting, monitoring, and corrective management

Oversee all operational policies, procedures, controls, and fee structures to ensure the safekeeping of assets, inventory, and resources

Represent the golf department at club meetings and information sessions

Maintain and promote a superlative professional image within the community and golf world

Must be an organized, competent, respected manager and possess outstanding customer service skills

Must be able to perform all physical requirements of a Director of Golf, including the ability and confidence to play golf with members and at various club events

Must have good computer skills and be proficient in golf operations software, including but not limited to: Jonas, handicap systems, POS, word processing, and tournament programs

Maintain the ability to analyze and interpret data and prepare reports

Establish, maintain, and execute golf events meeting the high standards members expect within the competitive framework as established by the Golf Committee

Work in conjunction with the Golf Committee and attend the regularly scheduled meetings

Educational and Certification Qualifications

Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Golf Management but not required.

In lieu of the degree, substantial golf professional and private club experience will be considered.

A PGA/LPGA member in good standing with a minimum of 5 years of Head Professional or Director of Golf experience in a like or similar type of facility is required.

NOTE: Those current 1st or Lead Assistant Professionals, or Head Golf Professionals under a Director of Golf at well‑recognized clubs with a strong history of excellent mentorship of the professionals that have worked there, along with verifiable records of achievement, will be considered for this role.
