Overview
Perform technical duties involving processing tissue for diagnosis by a pathologist. Performance of these duties involves the use of various instruments and immunohistochemical procedures, as well as immunofluorescence techniques. Assist in quality control procedures. Maintains and troubleshoots instruments. May also gross biopsy samples. Provide excellent customer service.
Qualifications Required Education: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Science related field
Necessary Skills:
Knowledge of principles, methods, materials and techniques of histopathology.
Identify tissue structures, cell components and their staining and labeling characteristics.
Ability to perform assigned tasks according to prescribed procedures and to recognize and correct abnormal results that might affect the outcome of the diagnosis.
Ability to recognize malfunctioning equipment and assist in making repairs.
Ability to prioritize tasks and organize work flow.
Requires good decision making skills.
Must be detail oriented.
Must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner.
Ability to professionally and courteously interact with internal and external customers.
Required Licensure/Certifications: Florida Histotechnologist License
Preferred Licensure/Certifications: National Certification
Required Experience: 1-2 years. One (1) year specialized training in a NAACLS approved Histology program-OR-One (1) year working as a histotechnician/histotechnologist in a hospital laboratory.
Preferred Experience: Two (2) years experience in Histology.
