EDRP Eligibility
This position is eligible for
the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) , a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within 4 months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
Duties The Registered Nurse is an Outpatient Mental Health (MH) Triage Registered Nurse (RN) who executes position responsibilities to improve patient and organizational outcomes. The MH Triage RN provides patient-centered and recovery-oriented care and maintains self-awareness while caring for patients living with MH conditions. The MH Triage RN uses therapeutic communication techniques, practices de-escalation techniques, utilizes recovery-oriented language, and provides Veterans, their family members, and/or caregivers with education regarding their illness, medications, and treatment plan. The MH Triage RN conducts thorough initial and triage assessments of assigned and unassigned same day access patients’ mental health status and the needs of care via in-person or telephone. MH Triage RN utilizes standardized triage tools and protocols to prioritize patient needs based on urgency and clinical presentation. MH Triage RN responds to patients experiencing mental health crises, ensuring immediate and safe intervention measures are taken. Coordinates with emergency services and crisis support teams as needed to manage acute situations. Facilitates referrals to appropriate mental health services, including crisis intervention, outpatient therapy, and specialty care. MH Triage RN participates in clinic quality improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of triage and care processes. MH Triage RN documents nursing triage assessments, risk screens, measurement-based care tools, clinical reminders, and patient plan of care according to facility policy. Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient. Supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of health care professionals. Provides accurate and timely documentation. Attends relevant training and continuing education programs to maintain current knowledge of mental health care practices and standards. Adheres to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Preferred Experience Outpatient mental health experience preferably 2 years or greater.
