Duties

The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each Medical Center, empowering and equipping Veterans to take charge of their health and well‑being to live their lives to the fullest.

As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will follow a model with three core elements—creating a personalized health plan for each Veteran in the context of healing relationships, environments, and community connection.

This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to honor America’s Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well‑being.

This full‑time permanent Nurse Practitioner position is located within the Mental Health Service at the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System.

You are responsible for evaluating and treating Veterans for psychiatric evaluation and/or treatment services, applying professional knowledge of psychiatric medication principles and therapeutic techniques.

You will participate in multidisciplinary conferences to develop appropriate treatment plans, goals, and objectives for patients.

Focus on individuals who present to the Primary Care Clinic with concerns related to their mental health, working closely with providers in Primary Care at the main Sioux Falls facility and within community‑based outpatient clinics (CBOCs).

Utilize therapeutic techniques in addition to medication to assist patients, treating walk‑in patients in Primary Care as well as those known to the Mental Health Service line.

Assist in other areas providing mental health assessment and treatment.

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: competitive salary with regular increases and potential performance awards; 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays); traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% VA contributions; federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care insurance (many can be carried into retirement); one full and unrestricted state license; 8:00 am–4:30 pm work schedule.

Additional information may be provided during an interview.
