As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you’ll be front and center – interacting with our customers and developing strong patient relationships. Responsibilities
Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with company policies and procedures. Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assist with and coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in operating pharmacy systems and cash registers. Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience. Customer Experience
Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Model and share customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied). Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers. Operations
Assist in the practice of pharmacy under the supervision of the pharmacist, in accordance with state, federal, and company policy, and review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly, filling prescriptions, verifying medication accuracy, and checking for possible interactions. Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow. Report promptly any prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies and procedures related to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program. Adhere strictly to Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during applicable prescription dispensing activities. Register all related sales on the assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, and assist customers to the OTC aisle when possible. Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians. Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third‑party prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager. Assist and support the Pharmacy Department with inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments. Maintain knowledge of company asset‑protection techniques and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs. Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples from patients and coordinating other clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers. Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other health care providers through provider detailing and outreach to health groups, retirement homes, and nursing homes. Assist with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies and kept neat and orderly. Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers. Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned. Training & Personal Development
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state‑required certification/registration. Otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician. Attend training requested by the Manager and acquire continuing education credits. Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including the latest news and developments. Basic Qualifications
Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico) Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours. Preferred Qualifications
Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment. Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens. Prefer strong math skills for accurate prescription filling (counting, measuring, weighing). Prefer good computer skills. Prefer knowledge of store inventory control. Prefer PTCB certification. We will consider employment of qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
