Referral Coordinator – Imaging
Location: Newport News, Virginia
Overview Works under the supervision of the Registration Manager. Primarily responsible for scheduling patient appointments within Imaging Services, scheduling tests at appropriate facilities, coordinating completion for insurance‑mandated referrals and authorizations in a timely manner prior to the date of service, updating patient chart records with necessary referral information, flagging and faxing appropriate medical records, contacting patients via telephone, and communicating appointment preparation details.
What You Will Do
Increase appointment utilization by monitoring department schedules daily, creating additional appointment slots to increase department productivity, and communicating appointment changes with patients.
Provide scheduling services accurately and in the prescribed manner, coordinating multiple procedures with varying departments. Obtain and document accurate patient demographics, appropriate test, and reason for the test, as well as any other pertinent information specific to the task being scheduled.
Complete pre‑registration and insurance verification accurately following all existing policies and procedures. Work daily queues to ensure patient automations are complete prior to check‑in according to patient group/modality assigned.
Contribute to overall department Time of Service collections. Financial reports indicate team member is effective in communicating patient balance and collecting payments due.
Process physician and patient requests for tests and referrals in a timely manner. Respond appropriately and timely to patient calls.
Qualifications Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Associates Degree (Preferred)
Experience
3‑4 years business office experience (Preferred)
1 year scheduling experience specific to Imaging Services/Registration (Preferred)
Licenses & Certifications
Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) - NAHAM (Preferred)
