Position Overview Waverly School is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and reflective
Kindergarten Teacher
for a leave replacement position lasting approximately 6 weeks around February through mid‑March. The ideal candidate is a child‑centered educator who believes in the potential of every learner and values the importance of building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned to state standards and tailored to meet the diverse needs of all learners
Foster a classroom culture of respect, belonging, and joyful learning
Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and monitor student progress
Collaborate with grade‑level and support teams to plan, reflect, and grow together
Communicate regularly with families to build partnership and support student success
Participate in professional development and school‑based initiatives
Qualifications
NYS Certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth‑2)
Experience working with young learners in a school setting preferred
Strong understanding of Science of Reading, balanced literacy, foundational math, and social‑emotional learning
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices
Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Requirements
NYS certification: Early Childhood Education or Childhood Education
NYSED Fingerprint Clearance
Employment Terms
10‑month, probationary position
Salary range in accordance with the Eastchester Teachers Association (ETA) negotiated salary schedule; $62,620 - $86,668, step placement contingent upon prior related experience.
Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law
305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint‑supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES). The Commissioner of Education carries out these responsibilities through the New York State Education Department's Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability (OSPRA).
