Role Summary The Communications & Development Manager is a key role responsible for shaping Abundant Housing LA’s public voice, crafting and executing messaging strategies, and increasing the organization’s public engagement and awareness. This position will be responsible for media relations, external digital communications, social media, and donor engagement. This is a highly visible and impactful role that will help shape pro-housing messaging across Los Angeles County.

The ideal candidate is flexible, adaptable, an excellent writer, and a strategic thinker who is equally comfortable crafting a compelling narrative, managing donor relationships, and executing campaigns that convert supporters into long-term champions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Communications

Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy that advances Abundant Housing LA’s mission and policy goals.

Serve as lead writer and editor for external communications, including:

Website content

Email newsletters

Social media posts and campaigns

Press releases, op-eds, and media pitches

Manage relationships with reporters and respond to media inquiries in coordination with the Executive Director.

Translate complex housing policy into clear, persuasive, and accessible messaging and talking points for diverse audiences.

Maintain consistent branding, tone, and voice across all platforms.

Design and format publishable products such as flyers, reports, press releases, and other external facing materials

Lead the creation of new, compelling messaging strategies directed and current and potential donors

Lead the creation and management of an annual communications and appeals calendar

Develop and execute digital fundraising strategies and campaigns (annual giving, digital appeals).

Draft, design, and create printed fundraising mailers and other materials

Cross-Organizational Support

Collaborate with policy, education, and organizing staff to align communications with priorities.

Support events, briefings, and public-facing programs as needed.

Contribute to strategic planning and organizational growth efforts.

Qualifications

At least 3 years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, digital communications, or a related field

Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms.

Experience with individual donor fundraising and/or digital fundraising campaigns preferred.

Familiarity and interest in housing policy, land use, or related social justice issues is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms and web management

Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable working in a small, fast-paced organization.

Strong alignment with Abundant Housing LA’s mission and values.

This is a 12-month term-limited position, with the possibility of permanent extension.
