Qualifications

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee or holds a privilege to practice under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).

A valid motor vehicle operator license may be required.

Subject to a criminal background check; may be required to provide information about criminal history.

Overview Under general supervision, responsible for registered nursing duties of average difficulty based on a wide range of circumstances and performs related work as required. The class may assign work across days, evenings, nights, and/or weekends in various settings. Job includes nursing assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation. This level differentiates from RN 3 by lacking clinical unit responsibility or supervisory duties.

Responsibilities

Provides nursing care and procedures per physician orders and nursing protocol, including administering medication, evaluating side effects, maintaining equipment and supplies, tracking drugs and instruments, performing basic life support, CPR, and participating in emergency response settings.

Performs initial and ongoing assessments per protocol, collecting patient/family health history data, performing diagnostic tests on specimens to determine patient health status.

Compares assessment data to acceptable ranges to determine abnormalities and effectiveness of goals and interventions.

Documents, completes, and maintains patient health and medication records; adjusts care plans as needed.

Explains tests, procedures, and results to appropriate individuals; communicates with internal and external entities.

Educates the health care plan to patients, families, individuals, groups, and others as appropriate.
