Job Title: Research Technician - Gnotobiotic Core (part‑time, 20 hours/week)
Location: Raleigh, NC
Department: Department of Population Health and Pathobiology
Overview This part‑time position supports operations of a Gnotobiotic Core, managing germ‑free and gnotobiotic mouse colonies. The role reports directly to the Core Manager and requires meticulous sterile technique and animal welfare expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Animal Husbandry and Colony Maintenance: daily care of germ‑free and gnotobiotic mice, health monitoring, and documentation of observations.
Sterile Techniques: changing cages and refilling water bottles within isolators following sterile protocols.
Core Preparation and Sterilization: package animal food, prepare and autoclave supplies, and assist with sterile introduction of supplies.
Facilities and Inventory: monitor isolator integrity, maintain general housekeeping, keep accurate inventory of supplies, and support equipment maintenance and assembly of isolators.
Qualifications
Previous experience in animal care, laboratory, or research settings.
Ability to follow strict protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
High level of attention to detail and precision.
Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
Other Responsibilities
Wear a full‑face respirator as needed.
